School for Goldsmithing and Silversmithing

Miniatures & Masterpieces 2026

This exhibition showcases the craftsmanship, creativity and technical skills of the next generation of goldsmiths and silversmiths. More than 40 students created their masterpiece, a piece of jewellery, or miniature, a small-scale functional object, taking each piece from concept and design through to completion.

The students chose their own sources of inspiration, resulting in a diverse range of themes and works. From brooches inspired by some of the most beautiful insects to miniatures that take you to the other side of the world.

Each piece demonstrates the student’s command of a range of silversmithing techniques, such as filigree, chasing and gemstone setting.

Masterpiece: A Final Test of Skill
In the past, apprentices learned the goldsmithing and silversmithing trade from a silversmith within the guild. Only after successfully completing a master test were they allowed to call themselves a goldsmith or silversmith. This tradition continues in the training programme at Vakschool Schoonhoven. As the culmination of their studies, students demonstrate their craftsmanship with a masterpiece, a piece of jewellery, or a miniature: a functional object made on a small scale.

Visitors’ Choice Award
During the first weeks of the exhibition, visitors can vote for their favourite piece. Together, they decide who receives the Visitors’ Choice Award. You can cast your vote using a voting form at the museum until 25 October. The winner will be announced at a later date.
